As with East Coast, West Coast’s inception came from reclaimed land in the 1970s. While they were both created from reclaimed land, the East became recreational and the West took the industrial route. The most western of the West Coast is predominantly industrial but the eastern and central locations mostly comprise of private housing and a Housing and Development Board (HDB) estate.
West Coast Vale Town HDB
There is a town centre at the heart of the HDB estate, despite the few amentities existing in the vicinity of the private homes and condos among West Coast. This town contains multiple two-storey shophouses, the West Coast Community Centre, the Ang Chee Sia Ong Temple, the Wu Tai Shan Buddhist Temple and the much acclaimed Clementi West Market, which is right across from the West Coast shopping mall.

The town stays busy on the weekends, where the residents of the private housing sectors and people of Clementi occupy the centre.
West Coast is connected by an array of networks of public transportation. SMRT services 178, 188, 189, 963, and SBS Transit services 30, 51, 78, 97, 143, 175, 196, 197, 198, 282, 285 pass through or take a loop around West Coast. Many of the aforementioned automotive services link West Coast to the Clementi MRT Station as well as the Bus Interchange, also in Clementi.
There are several fitness destinations throughout West Coast, including a stadium and swimming complex. Outdoor destinations such as West Coast Park and Clementi Woods can be found just outside West Coast.

Enjoyment is the main focus. Children were not forgotten about – there are multiple playgrounds geared towards children around the HDB estates as well as a variety of obscure playgrounds around West Coast.
